The Tricky Trees returned to the Premier League after a 23-year absence, and based on their summer spending spree, they appear determined to stay in the top-flight after bringing in an English record 21 players in a single transfer window.
On Thursday’s transfer deadline day, the newly promoted side signed Wolvers centre-back Willy Boly, Blackpool winger Josh Bowler, and Rennes central defender Loic Bade.
Forest have spent nearly 150 million pounds rebuilding a team that has been ravaged by the departures of five free agents and five on-loan players.
The East Midlands club broke their transfer record when they signed midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White for a reported fee of 25 million, while also spending big to sign striker Taiwo Awoniyi and right-back Neco Williams for 18 million each.
Midfielder Jesse Lingard joined on a free transfer, while goalkeeper Dean Henderson and left-back Renan Lodi arrived on loan from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, respectively. Forest have four points from their first five games under manager Steve Cooper and are 15th in the league standings ahead of Saturday’s trip to Everton.
Crystal Palace set the previous English record for the most signings in a single transfer window with 17 in the summer of 2013, according to Transfermarkt.
Meanwhile, during the summer window, Premier League clubs broke their single-season spending record, spending an incredible 1.9 billion pounds.
The gross spending by the 20 English Premier League clubs during the transfer window that ended on Thursday was the highest in the competition’s history, according to Deloitte’s Sports Business Group.
The gross spend on a total of 169 players was also 34% higher than the previous record of 1.4 billion for a single window in the summer of 2017. It was 67% more than the Premier League’s total summer window spend last year of 1.1 billion.
