Paris Saint-Germain have signed Fabian Ruiz from SSC Napoli on a long-term deal. The 26-year-old has become the Parisians’ fifth new signing of the season under the stewardship of consultant Luis Campos.
The Parisians paid 21.5 million euros for the player, who had entered the final year of his contract with the Partenopei, and tied him down to a five-year deal that will run until the end of the 2026/27 season.
He has become PSG’s fifth new signing of the summer under Campos, the infamous sporting director behind the successful projects at AS Monaco and Lille OSC – the only two teams to have broken the Parisian dominance over the French domestic crown over the last decade. Previously, PSG signed Vitinha, Hugo Ekitike, Nordi Mukiele, and Renato Sanches.
Moreover, the Ligue 1 champions converted Nuno Mendes’s loan stay permanent for a combined price of 99.5 million euros.
Speaking to the PSG media for the first time, Ruiz expressed his delight at signing for the club, claiming that he cannot wait to get started for his new team.
“I can’t wait to put this shirt on and do my bit. I just want it to start now! I can’t wait. Since the start of the negotiations, well, I was thinking of playing my first game at the Parc des Princes. I had the chance to play there a year ago, but now I want to play there in a Parisian shirt,”
he said.
Born in Sevilla, Ruiz came up through the ranks of Real Betis, breaking into the first team properly in the 2017/18 season.
Just a season with Betis was enough to impress Napoli, who chose the Spaniard to replace the outgoing Jorginho in the summer of 2018 and paid 30 million euros for his services. He spent four years in Naples, played 166 games, scored 22 goals, and became a full Spain international.
