Poland striker Arkadiusz Milik has joined Juventus on a one-year loan from Ligue 1 club Marseille, the Serie A club confirmed on Friday. The Old Lady were initially interested in signing Memphis Depay from Barcelona, but the deal has since fallen through.

The agreement includes a 2 million euro loan fee as well as an option to sign the player for 7 million over three years, with additional performance-related add-ons worth 2 million.

“Milik is a striker, who, in addition to having extraordinary physical strength, is skilled in aerial play and is above all very dangerous in the penalty area,”

the Italian club said in a statement.

The 28-year-old returns to Serie A after spending nearly five years at Napoli, where he made over 120 appearances in all competitions and scored nearly 60 goals.

He joined Marseille on an 18-month loan with the option to join permanently in January 2021. Milik has 62 international caps for Poland and now plays for Juventus alongside international teammate Wojciech Szczesny.

Milik scored 20 goals in 37 appearances for Marseille in Ligue 1 last season, helping Les Phoceens finish second behind Paris Saint-Germain. However, the summer arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Inter Milan had seriously jeopardised Milik’s place in the starting XI, so it is not surprising to see the Poland international depart.

After rejecting a permanent deal for Morata, Juventus are looking for a new striker, with Anthony Martial and Timo Werner also previously linked with a move to the Allianz Arena.

Milik becomes Juventus’ sixth new signing of the summer transfer window, following the acquisition of Bremer, Filip Kostic, Andrea Cambiaso, Paul Pogba, and Angel Di Maria.

With Pogba set to miss a significant amount of time due to a knee injury, the Old Lady are expected to sign a new midfielder, and PSG’s Leandro Paredes could be the latest name to join Juve.

Following two relatively disappointing Serie A campaigns, Massimilliano Allegri’s men have started the current season with four points from their first two games, trailing Napoli, Inter Milan, and AS Roma by two points.
