”I know where my game stands” – Virat opens up on overcoming a challenging phase

India’s modern-day great Virat Kohli feels that there hasn’t been any glaring problem with his batting in recent times and that he only needs to find his rhythm back.

Kohli might’ve had a tough and extended patch without any significant score to his name, but the modern-day great is confident that he will get back to his best once he gets his rhythm back.

He stated that his recent slump is unlike the one he experienced in England in 2014, wherein he had aggregated just 134 runs in 10 innings in the five-match Test series, the struggles coming to the fore with a recurring mode of dismissals then.

“Right now, there is nothing that you can point out saying that the problem is happening here. So, that for me, is actually an easier thing to process because I know that I’m batting well and at times, when I start feeling that rhythm back, then I know that I’m batting well,”

Kohli said on Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’.

It has been over a 1,000 days since Kohli last registered an international hundred. His tally of 70 is bettered only by Ricky Ponting (71) and Sachin Tendulkar (100).

Kohli believes that he attained such heights in his international career because of his ability to counter different challenges, and that he seeks to learn more from the ongoing phase. He also emphasised on the value of experience.

“I know where my game stands and you cannot run this far in your international career without having the ability to counter situations and counter conditions and counter different kinds of bowling”.

So, this for me, is an easier phase to process, but I don’t want to put this phase behind me. I want to learn from it and I want to understand what are the core values that I have, as a sportsperson and as a human being”.

Kohli will be in action when India play Pakistan in their first game of the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on August 28.
