Hours before their Premier League game against rivals Liverpool, United have announced the signing of defensive midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee – rumoured to be in the region of 60-70 million pounds – subject to international clearance.

The Red Devils are reportedly paying Los Blancos a 60 million pound fee up-front with a further ten million wrapped up in achievable add-ons. Meanwhile, the player has penned a four-year deal with the club until 2026 – with the option to extend it by another year.

Casemiro arrived in Manchester in time to watch his new team beat Liverpool 2-1 on Monday night. The Brazil international was mobbed by supporters as he entered the stadium and was later given a round of applause by those present inside.

Meanwhile, Speaking to the club website for the first time since his arrival, the 30-year-old labeled his latest career move an interesting opportunity, complimented manager Erik ten Hag, and declared his intentions to win trophies and make fans proud during his time in Manchester.

“The opportunity to start a new challenge at Manchester United and in the Premier League is extremely exciting,”

“I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met with Erik and heard his ideas, I can’t wait to work closely with him, his staff, and my new teammates in the coming years.

“I’m ending one beautiful journey in Madrid whilst starting another in Manchester as determined as ever to win football matches, win trophies and make our fans proud by bringing success to this great club,”

    he said.

Casemiro made his name at Real Madrid, the club he signed for in 2013 from Sao Paulo. The defensive midfielder spent a year on loan at FC Porto in 2014/15; the subsequent season, he broke into the Real Madrid first team and formed a partnership with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos that lasted almost a decade and won five UEFA Champions League titles. The Brazilian parted ways with the Spanish giants after eight years, during which he made 336 appearances and scored 31 goals.
