Southern Brave have suffered a major setback at the ongoing Men’s Hundred 2022, with death overs specialist Chris Jordan being ruled out of the rest of the ongoing tournament with finger injury.

The 33-year-old copped a blow to the middle finger on his right hand while fielding a Kieron Pollard stroke off his own bowling during Brave’s nine-run defeat to London Spirit at The Rose Bowl on August 12. He returned 0/33 from his 20-ball spell, and was unbeaten at 7 off 4 in a failed run-chase of 148.

Jordan missed out on the next game against Oval Invincibles at The Oval on Sunday, which Brave lost by seven wickets, and has now been ruled out of the competition altogether.

Placed currently seventh in the points table with just one win from four games, they are expected to sign a replacement soon, with left-arm quick Tymal Mills, too, being ruled out with injury earlier. The James Vince-led side will take on Jos Buttler’s Manchester Originals in Southampton on August 18.

“We have a few days before our next game so we will make some plans and see who is out there and available,”

Mahela Jayawardene, the Brave head coach, said on Sunday.

Jordan played in each of England’s six T20Is in the ongoing home summer. He was impressive against India, bagging eight wickets from three outings while maintaining an economy of 7.25, but could produce just two wickets at 62.50 against South Africa while conceding runs at 10.42.

He is expected to be ready for England’s tour of Pakistan, featuring seven T20Is between September 20 and October 2.
