Elliott inks new long-term Liverpool extension ahead of “biggest season” of his life

Liverpool have followed Joe Gomez and Diogo Jota’s contract extensions by tying down youngster Harvey Elliott to a new long-term contract, which will run until the end of the 2026/27 season.

The winger has penned down a five-year extension to his current deal, prolonging his stay at the club until at least the end of the 2026/27 season.

Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer of 2019, months after making history as the Premier League’s youngest debutant at the age of 16 years and 30 days. He spent the 2020/21 season out on loan at the Championship side Blackburn Rovers, where he made 41 appearances and scored seven goals, before returning to his parent club the subsequent season.

The young midfielder looked set for a breakout season in 2021/22, but an injury early on in the campaign sent him to the sidelines until late. He would only return to action on February 6, in a cup tie against Cardiff City – and score mere minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Speaking to the club website after signing his new deal, Elliott called the ongoing season the biggest of his career so far.

    “I think so,”

he said when quizzed if this was the biggest season of his life.

“I think for myself, personally, I have a lot to prove and the team has a lot to prove. Last season, unfortunately, we didn’t win the Prem or the Champions League.

“It’s always going to be a big season. No matter where you go in your football career a season is going to have a lot of ups and downs and a lot of pressure. It’s just down to you whether you can handle it and make sure you perform under this pressure, especially at Liverpool.”

Elliott follows Jota and Gomez in renewing his deal with Liverpool for the long-term. The Reds have added three signings of their three renewals, too, with Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsay joining the club permanently this summer.
