The Bavarians cruised to victory on Tuesday night with two early strikes from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Joshua Kimmich and are now 10 points clear of second-placed RB Leipzig, who lost 2-1 away at Cologne.

The 2020-21 Bundesliga season appeared to be a two-horse title race till early March. RB Leipzig putting pressure on Bayern Munich at the top spot with some stellar performance. However, Bayern inevitably took control of their performance just before the international break and opened up the gap to 7 points heading into Tuesday’s fixture.

FC Koln handed RB Leipzig a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home, and Bayern now need three points in their remaining four games to be crowned as Bundesliga champion for the 30th time.

The Bavarians never looked in doubt in Tuesday’s victory, scoring twice within the first 15 minutes. Thomas Muller’s shot from David Alaba’s cross was parried back to the danger zone by Leverkusen keeper Lukas Hradecky, but Choupo-Moting made no mistake and scored his first in the 7th minute. A few minutes later, Muller’s cut-back to Kimmich led to Bayern’s second goal, and Leverkusen never recovered.

Hansi Flick’s side dominated the game as usual, with Bayern almost scoring their third after Müller’s thunderous shot was stopped by Finnish number-one Hradecky shortly after the game restarted. Both Leon Bailey and Karim Bellarabi saw their effort go begging as bad lack, superior opponent and VAR all turned against them in the second half. Young Jamal Musiala, with a sensational brace against Wolfsburg last weekend, was once again unstoppable with an 18-yard strike banger that whistled just wide past the post. But that’s about everything. Bayern knew they needed three important points and wrapped up the game before their opponents could even start.

Choupo-Moting has now netted in three consecutive games for the second time in his career. Hansi Flick will have the opportunity to lift his seventh trophy in a year and a half as Bayern manager if the Bavarians win the league on Saturday against Mainz.
