One of the best strikers in the recent years of the Indian Super League, Roy Krishna’s chapter with ATK Mohun Bagan has come to a close. However, he has returned to India with Bengaluru FC, and the club have officially announced the signing on social media.

The Fiji international was one of the most coveted players of the current transfer market in Indian football and received offers from several different ISL clubs after his decision to part ways with ATK Mohun Bagan.

Krishna had made up his mind to leave the Mariners after four extremely successful years with them, during which he won the ISL in 2019-20 and finished as the top-scorer of the league in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

The 34-year-old had received offers from Kerala Blasters, FC Goa and Northeast United, although Mumbai City and East Bengal were also persistent about signing him. In the end, Bengaluru FC won the race to his signature, and they announced the signing of Krishna this morning with a brilliantly made video featuring skipper Sunil Chhetri.

The video, released by the club, shows club captain Chhetri constantly talking to an unknown person over the phone for hours and being careless about activities going on in his house. Towards the end of the clip, we figure out who the caller was as Chhetri’s phone chimes with a notification. The revelation is that Roy was talking to the Bengaluru FC talisman.

Krishna had also received an offer from his former A-League club Wellington Phoenix. However, he decided to turn it down in order to remain in India and continue playing in the ISL, where he is the fourth-highest scorer of all time.

“We’d definitely love to bring Roy back. He obviously had a great season before he went over to India and he did some very good things in India,”

said Phoenix head coach Ufuk Talay earlier in July, as per stuff.co.nz.

With the departure of Ashique Kuruniyan to ATKMB, Krishna becomes Bengaluru’s sixth signing of the summer. The club has also signed former ATK players Javi Hernandez and Prabir Das, among others.
