Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry has put an end to rumours regarding his future by agreeing to a new contract with the Bavarians.

Chelsea were being credited with a strong interest in the 27-year-old, but the player, instead, has penned down an extension to his existing deal, improving his wages and keeping him at the Allianz Arena until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Speaking to the Bayern website following his contract signing, the Germany international confirmed that a lot of thought went into the process of deciding what is best for his future – which, in the end, turned out to be a prolonged stay in Munich.

“I thought a lot about what I want as a player in the coming years, and came to the conclusion that I want to stay at FC Bayern, win everything again here and experience things – in particular celebrating another Champions League title, but this time with our fans”.

“It’s special because I get to play here with my friends at the highest level. It certainly wouldn’t feel the same at a different club. I want to experience more great moments here – and nowhere else. The hunger for major honors isn’t going away,”

    Gnabry said.

An Arsenal youth product, Gnabry left London to return to his native Germany in 2016 when he signed for Bundesliga club Werder Bremen following a season-long loan spell with West Brom.

A breakout year at Bremen brought interest from TSG Hoffenheim and Bayern, and eventually, an agreement was reached, allowing the winger to join the latter on a long-term deal, the first year of which was to be spent on loan with the former.

Gnabry linked up with his Bayern teammates for the first time in 2018, and in the four years since, has made 171 appearances for the club, scoring 63 goals; he has also won the Bundesliga title in all of his four seasons in Bavaria.
