Shaw says he started worrying about his technique after being dropped from the Test side

Prithvi Shaw says he started working back in Australia itself but once he flew back to India, the 21-year-old synced up with his coach Prashant Shetty and Pravin Amre before going to the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

It hasn’t been an easy ride for Prithvi Shaw so far, especially since making his Test debut. He started off his international career with a bang, smashing a hundred and a fifty against West Indies. However, he injured himself in Australia and was ruled out of the 2018-19 tour. Following that, he was banned for six months for failing the doping test.

Since his return, the Mumbai-born cricketer played both Test matches in New Zealand but scored just 98 runs in four innings. He also made his ODI debut on the same tour. In Australia late last year, he played the pink-ball Test match, but his technique was found out. The Australian fast bowlers got the ball to jag back in and went through the gate, knocking over Shaw’s stumps in both innings.

Thus, he was subsequently dropped from the Test side after that first Test in Adelaide. The 21-year-old revealed that he started working on his technique back in Australia only as the Indian team went on to record a historic series win 2-1.

Once he was back in India, Shaw worked with his coach Prashant Shetty and also synced up with Pravin Amre before the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He made some adjustments to his batting, and it worked beautifully. Shaw smashed a record 827 runs at an average of 165.40 and a strike-rate of 138.29.

“After getting dropped from the Test side after the first Test in Australia, I started worrying about my technique on why I was getting bowled. Even if it was a minor mistake, I wanted to minimize that. I started working on it there itself.

I worked on my initial movement – getting more stable and more ready before the bowler has bowled. After returning from Australia, I worked with my coach Prashant Shetty sir and also Pravin Amre sir before going to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and it worked quite well.

I played my natural game in Vijay Hazare Trophy, but I made a small technical change. After that, it’s going well,”

Prithvi Shaw was quoted saying after Delhi Capitals’ win over Punjab Kings.

Shaw has started this IPL 2021 with a bang as well. The 21-year-old opening batsman smashed a stunning 72 off 38 balls against Chennai Super Kings. He flopped against Rajasthan Royals but scored a fluent 32 against Punjab Kings.
