Having lost the Test and T20 leg of the tour, Bangladesh bounced back in style to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the ODI series on July 13. The visitors hammered West Indies by nine wickets in the second match, winning it by 29.2 overs to spare.

Nasum Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan were the wreckers in chief as they shared seven wickets between them to shoot out the hosts for just 108 in 35 overs. Skipper Tamim Iqbal then hit an unbeaten fifty to complete a dominant victory.

As it happened, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first. On a deck that’s historically been very helpful for spinners, Bangladesh spinners tormented the batting side. Mosaddek Hossain knocked over Kyle Mayers in 11th over to open the doors, after which left-arm spinner Nasum and off-spinner Mehidy ran through the rest of the line-up.

None of the Windies batters could cross 25 or build a significant partnership. Keemo Paul remained unbeaten on 25 off 24 as they skittled out in 35 overs. Mehidy snared 4 for 29 in eight overs while Nasum picked 3 for 19 in his 10.

Chasing the target, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Iqbal put on a 48-run stand for the opening wicket. The latter went on to score an unbeaten 50 while Liton Das smashed 32* off 27 to take the team over the line in 20.4 overs.

Nasum was named the ‘Player of the match’ for his outstanding spell. Earlier, Bangladesh claimed the first ODI by six wickets on the back of Mehidy’s three-for. The two teams will meet in the final match of the tour on July 16.

    Brief scores

    West Indies – 108 in 35 overs (Paul 25; Mehidy 4/29, Nasum 3/19)

    Bangladesh – 112/1 in 20.4 overs (Iqbal 50*, Das 32*; Motie 1/39)
