The Blues have signed Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling on a five-plus-one-year deal, making the Englishman the first major men’s signing under the ownership of Todd Boehly. The England international, whose contract was due to expire with the Citizens was set to expire next year, leaves the club after seven years.

Sterling, for whom the Blues paid 47.5 million pounds, has penned a deal until the end of the 2026/27 season with the option to extend it by another year – becoming the first significant signing under the new ownership.

The 27-year-old undertook his medical tests in London before flying to the United States of America, where he met his new teammates for the first time and was publicly unveiled as a new Chelsea signing with a photoshoot in Beverly Hills. He then trained with his new group for the first time and attended a photo-op at the Todd Boehly-owned LA Dodgers’ stadium.

Speaking for the first time since his transfer, the player announced that he had big plans for his time at Chelsea.

“First and foremost, it’s a pleasure to be here”.

“I’ve obviously achieved a lot in my career so far, but there is still so much more to achieve and I’m really looking forward to doing that in a Chelsea shirt, under Thomas’s management.

“London is my home and where it all started for me, and it’s amazing I now have the opportunity to play in front of friends and family week in, week out at Stamford Bridge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon.

“I can’t wait to get going now and continue to do my talking on the pitch.”

Seven seasons Sterling spent in Manchester, helping the Citizens to four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and five EFL Cups. He made 339 appearances for the perennial English champions over seven years and finished his stint with a remarkable tally of 131 goals.

During his period, the winger also developed into one of his national team’s difference makers. He is 23 short of a century of appearances and has scored 19 goals.
