Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Irish centre-back Nathan Collins from the relegated Burnley following the latter’s relegation to the Championship at the end of the previous season. The 21-year-old Collins becomes Wolves’ first signing of the season after the West Midlands outfit reportedly paid Burnley a fee in the region of 21 million pounds to complete the transfer.

Collins joined Burnley ahead of the 2021/22 season for an undisclosed fee after two successful seasons with his boyhood club Stoke City. The Irishman made just 19 appearances for the Clarets in the top flight, standing in when required for the first-choice pairing of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski – before getting a string of starts towards the end of the season. The youngster also scored twice in back-to-back home games against Everton and Southampton.

Elsewhere, Brentford, too, have signed a promising youngster of their own; the Bees have broken their club record for the second time in a week to bring in attacker Keane Lewis-Potter from Championship outfit Hull City.

Reports suggest that the London club has paid Hull 20 million pounds for the player, eclipsing the 14 million that to Bologna for the services of left-back Aaron Hickey just three days earlier.

Pleased at signing “one of the biggest young talents in the Championship”, Brentford coach Thomas Frank spoke highly of Lewis-Potter’s qualities in an interview with the club website.

“We have a player who scores his goals by arriving in the box and attacking the last line. He gets in the position to convert the chances made for him. He is a flexible player, he can play both sides, as a striker and as a ten if we want to do that. He has a very good mentality,”

    he said.

The England U21 international enjoyed a breakout season with Hull in 2021/22, scoring 12 goals and supplying three assists in 46 appearances.
