Liverpool have finalized the sale of academy graduate Neco Williams to Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest, the clubs confirmed on July 10. The full-back spent the latter half of the 2021/22 season on loan at fellow Championship side Fulham.

Nottingham have paid 17.5 million pounds for the player while purchasing 15 per cent future sell-on percentage, making him their fifth signing of the season. Williams, who has made 21 appearances for Wales and scored twice, has penned a four-year contract, keeping him at the City Ground until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

He spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Fulham, whom he helped get promoted to the Premier League as the Championship winners. The youngster scored twice in his 15 appearances for the West London outfit, attracting talk of a permanent move to the Craven Cottage.

Instead, Forest jumped the queue and agreed a deal with Liverpool quickly, adding Williams to a list of exciting summer signings, including left-back Omar Richards (Bayern) and goalkeeper Dean Henderson (Manchester United, loan).

The Reds, meanwhile, had already replaced their outgoing academy graduate with the 18-year-old Calvin Ramsay, whom they signed from Aberdeen.

Speaking to the club website for the first time, Williams talked up Forest’s history and the home ground, claiming that he cannot wait to take it all in, in the coming weeks.

“I’m really excited to join Nottingham Forest and to help this great club move forwards in the Premier League.”

“Forest are a club with incredible history and The City Ground is a very special venue that I can’t wait to experience in full voice in the coming weeks.

Having spoken to the head coach, there’s a huge amount of ambition being shown at the club and I can’t wait to join up with my new teammates and get ready for the challenge ahead.”

Williams leaves Liverpool to join Forest after 33 appearances in three seasons.
