Kyle Mayers’ fantastic allround display helped West Indies bruise Bangladesh towards a 2-0 Test series whitewash at home on June 27. The Calypso Kings absolutely shattered the Bangla spirits into pieces on their way to a ten-wicket victory, chasing only 13 runs in the final innings.

Mayers produced a fantastic knock of 146 in the first-innings of the Test match to help his side reach a massive 408 in response to Bangladesh’s 234 all out on the opening day in St Lucia. This, either side of his effective medium fast-bowling, once again produced crucial wickets for the West Indies.

He bagged 2 for 35 in the first half and bowled a tight spell of 0/21 in the second. Mayers had picked up four wickets in the previous Test match as well.

For his great allround display, he not only received the ‘Player of the Match’ award but also the ‘Player of the Series’ honours. His performance made things easy for the rest of the Caribbean men.

West Indies had skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (51), John Campbell (45) and Jermaine Blackwood (40), too, producing knocks of substance in the first innings, after seamers Jayden Seales (3/53), Alzarri Joseph (3/50) and Anderson Phillip (2/30) had ran through the visitors on the opening day.

Seales backed his figures with a spell of 3/21 in the third innings of the Test, with the experienced Kemar Roach (3/54) and Joseph (3/57) taking three-fers, too.

Bangladesh had only experienced opener Tamim Iqbal (46) and Litton Das (53) withstanding the opposition attack in the first half, and Nurul Hasan (60*) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (42) in the second as longstanding problems with the bat came back to held the Tigers again.

With the ball, too, while they had Khaled Ahmed taking a five-fer and Mehidy Hasan ending with a three-fer in the first-innings, they conceded 106 and 91 runs, respectively, for their collective breakthroughs, offering no match to the level of threat that West Indies bowlers exerted on their batters.

Professional job by the West Indies to win 2-0 vs Bangladesh. That was the goal and the expectation at home, and the manner in which it was done is another step forward for the team. WIvsBang.
