Pogba believes his Man Utd teammate Greenwood ‘can go to the highest level’

Manchester United are moving towards UEFA Champions League qualification next season with several of their players in good form. One of them is Mason Greenwood, who the midfielder Paul Pogba is backing to become ‘world class’ in the future.

Greenwood has found his form of late after enduring a difficult campaign. The youngster broke through into the Manchester United first-team midway through last season and looked to have established himself as a key member. However, loss of form earlier this season saw him lose his place in the team, which he has since won back.

The 19-year-old has scored three times in the league this season, although two of those goals came in recent weeks. The youngster netted the winner against Brighton two weeks ago before sealing a 3-1 win over Tottenham last weekend. His first goal of the season came in December 2020, in a win over West Ham United.

“Mason is a big-talented player that we had from our academy. He can go to the highest level, world class, it just depends on him. He has to work hard, harder than everyone, believe in himself and want it.

When you’re talented like this, you already have talent, now it’s only the work you put in to make you become the world-class player you have to become with this talent. It depends on him.

I will always be the guy to push him, not praise him too much, but push him to get to the level he should arrive at. That’s the way I am, I don’t like being praised too much because you can get too comfortable and you think you are there when you are not.

World-class players like Lionel Messi and Ronaldo have been top for years and years. Achieving that for one year is not enough, you want to be world-class for your whole career.”

his teammate Paul Pogba told Sky Sports.

Despite his poor spell in the league, Greenwood has scored seven times across all competitions. He is yet to score in the UEFA Europa League, but he did score in the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup. The attacker has six assists to his name across all competitions as well.

Greenwood will hope to continue his recent run of form when Manchester United play Burnley this weekend. The Red Devils will be looking to go ten points clear of Leicester City and consolidate their second position in the league table. United will head into the match on the back of four straight wins, with their most recent one coming against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils could create a little bit of history if certain things go their way in this match. They have recorded a win after coming from behind nine times during this league season. One more such victory would see them tie Newcastle United’s record of 10, which the Magpies achieved in the 2001/02 season.

Nevertheless, they will face a challenging task in the form of Burnley. Sean Dyche’s team is unbeaten in the last four away matches against Manchester United and won the same fixture last season by two goals to nil. Furthermore, the Red Devils have failed to complete a ‘double’ over this particular opponent since the 1975/76 season and will be looking to break that trend when the two sides meet on Sunday.
