The Portuguese joined the North London club in November 2019 replacing Mauricio Pochettino and helped them finish sixth in the Premier League last year.

“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.

He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

    club chairman Daniel Levy said.

Spurs are currently placed seventh in the Premier League Table. They have accumulated just two points in their last three Premier league matches and were eliminated by Dinamo Zagreb in their round of 16 fixture in the Europa League last month as well.

Interestingly, Spurs had a fantastic start in the ongoing season, battering Manchester United 6-1 win at Old Trafford followed by some decisive wins in the next first few months. Their 2-0 win over local rivals Arsenal in early December at home made them the table-toppers, as the’ special one’ became the second Spurs manager to win his first two north London derbies.

But it all went downhill since then. A loss against Liverpool the same month brought them down to second, and they couldn’t recover ever since. Spurs have managed just seven wins in the last 19 league outings, suffering defeat on eight occasions.

Their form in cup competitions wasn’t convincing either. The club crashed out of the FA Cup in a 5-4 quarter final defeat to Everton in February and were humiliated by Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 in March, having won the first leg 2-0.

A 2-2 draw against Everton last Friday was the last nail in Mourinho’s Premier League career as he has suffered 10 league defeats in a single season, the worst in his entire managerial career.
Former midfielder Ryan Mason is expected to take charge of the first-team training from Monday as Spurs’ biggest match of the season, the Carabao League Cup final against Manchester City, waits next Sunday.
