Manhester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain target Christopher Nkunku has signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig, an official statement confirms. The Frenchman has agreed to prolong his existing deal until 2026 – two years longer than the previous agreement – which is said to contain a 60 million euros release clause kicking in, in 2023.

Nkunku burst onto the scene in 2021/22, scoring 35 goals and creating a further 19 for his teammates in 50 appearances across all competitions, alerting Europe’s top clubs to his talents. For his contribution to Leipzig’s domestic campaign – Die Roten Bullen finished fourth in the points table despite a torrid start to the season.

Nkunku was named Bundesliga’s Player of the Season, ahead of top-scorer Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) and Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund). Speaking to the club’s website, the 24-year-old praised Leipzig’s efforts to keep him around, for the time being, claiming that his story in Germany isn’t over yet.

“I’m pleased to continue wearing the RB Leipzig shirt. After our great achievement in winning the DFB-Pokal, it remained clear that my story here isn’t over yet – we want more!”

“I was really impressed with the club’s efforts to keep me, so a big thanks goes to those responsible for the trust in me and especially to Oliver Mintzlaff, with whom I was always in close contact.

RB Leipzig have made a name for themselves on the international stage in recent years and have shown time and again that we can compete for titles. We want to build on that going forward and go one step further,”

    Nkunku said.

The player joined Leipzig three years earlier in the summer of 2019 from boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain in a 13 million euros deal. In the time elapsed, he has played 136 games for the German club and made his international debut for France.
