Leicester City have extended the contract of their 23-year-old central midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall until 2027. However, midfielder Youri Tielemans is left in limbo after Arsenal have now withdrawn from contention for the Belgium international
Speaking to the club website, Leicester academy graduate Dewsbury-Hall claimed his decision was a “no brainer”.
“I have a really good relationship with the football club. I’ve been here since I was eight years old, so it was a no-brainer really when I sat down and we spoke about the deal. I’ve got big, big ambitions for the future, and I know the Football Club have too.”
Dewsbury-Hall joined the Foxes as a scholar in 2006 before graduating into the U21s eleven years later. The Englishman enjoyed back-to-back loan spells at lower league sides Blackpool and Luton Town before joining the Leicester’s senior side ahead of the 2021/22 season. He made 44 appearances in his breakout season for the club and scored three goals.
While Dewsbury-Hall has committed his long-term future to the club, the fate of star midfielder Youri Tielemans remains unclear. Arsenal were rumoured to be keen on signing the former AS Monaco midfielder this summer but have reportedly cooled their interest for the time being as they chase other key targets.
Furthermore, as per The Athletic, the Gunners may have to sell a player to make room for Tielemans in their squad. Currently, the side have Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny competing for the central midfield spots. Tielemans’s contract expires in a year, with a Leicester extension looking unlikely.
