Kevin Pietersen felt delighted seeing England beat New Zealand in the Trent Bridge Test, especially the manner in which they chased down the runs on the final afternoon. He also noted that the new Indian Premier League broadcasting deal that may shape up the future of the sport.

Taking to Twitter on June 20, Pietersen dwelled on both the topics and took heart from the fact that England have played an attacking, enterprising brand of cricket in their successive Test wins over the Black Caps.

He gave credit to skipper Ben Stokes, head coach Brendon McCullum and managing director of cricket Rob Key for collectively inspiring the side to a series win after a longstanding period of struggles.

Having been a regular presence behind the mic for IPL matches, Pietersen soaked in the eye-catching broadcasting deal that witnessed the league getting rich by nearly 50,000 crore rupees for the next five-year cycle, beginning next season.

The IPL being a billion-dollar property attracted multiple corporate giants towards it in the bidding process held by the BCCI for tournament’s India and overseas rights in both television and digital category. While the Disney+Star consortium retained the broadcasting rights for the 2023-27 IPL seasons, Viacom18 won the deal for a growing fanbase on OTT.

Pietersen spoke of the financial moolah the BCCI will be dealing in but expected the board to work over the condition of stadiums across the country.

“The new TV rights deal for the IPl was HUGE! When you see those numbers, I think the BCCI will now improve the stadiums for the viewers, players etc. India is a powerhouse & lead with so much. They should now build the BEST stadiums in the world,”

     he tweeted.
