La Repubblica: Ronaldo has doubts over his role at Man Utd under ten Hag, could join Roma to reunite with Mourinho

As per a report in La Repubblica, Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo may struggle to fit in under the Red Devils’ new gaffer Ten Hag’s plans. AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho reportedly sees the opportunity to tempt the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to make a move to the Italian capital.

Although ten Hag has hailed the 37-year-old since taking over the reins at Old Trafford, there has been growing uncertainty over the Portuguese’s role under the Dutchman next season. The former Ajax boss prefers to build a young, driven squad that could be the opposite of what the star Portuguese forward brings at the table.

And due to this, Italian publication La Repubblica claims that Mourinho could be lining up a shocking move for Ronaldo along with Juventus and Sporting Lisbon.

Mourinho has recently signed his former player Nemanja Matic whom he had also signed in Chelsea and United while being at the helm in those clubs. And now he could do the same with Ronaldo, with whom he achieved much success yet didn’t end on the best terms in 2013.

Roma, meanwhile, could face trouble to complete the potential signing of Ronaldo over UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, but the dream is still there for the Conference League champions.

Ronaldo finished up as United’s leading goalscorer in both the league and in all competitions with 18 and 24 goals, respectively. He appeared in 38 games for the Red Devils across competitions last season, thus ending up being one of the top performers for the side that finished sixth in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the Roman outfit finished sixth last season behind arch-rivals Lazio who finished fifth. They have qualified for the Europa League this term courtesy of them winning the Conference League title last season.
