The Citizens have officially announced Erling Haaland’s arrival on a five-year deal from Borussia Dortmund. The club confirmed an agreement was in place for the transfer of the Norwegian forward more than a month ago, one which they had little trouble finding after triggering his 60 million euros release clause.

The Noregian follows in the footsteps of his father, Alf-Inge, who, almost 22 years to this day, signed for Manchester City in a 2.5 million pounds worth deal from Leeds United.

In his first interview with the club, the younger Haaland called it a proud day for him and his family.

“This is a proud day for me and my family. I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons. You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.

“There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep is one of the greatest managers of all-time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfill my ambitions,”

the 21-year-old told the club’s media.

As per reports, Haaland will earn a bumper 375,000 pounds a week wage at Manchester City, a steep increase from the package he received while in Germany. Nevertheless, the Norway international will not be the highest earner at City.

That tag remains with Kevin de Bruyne, who, at 400,000 per week, is among the league’s highest earners but still some way short of Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

In Haaland, City will receive one of the most talented players of his generation. He will join the Citizens on the back of almost a goal-per-game record at Borussia, for whom he scored 86 times in 89 appearances across all competitions.
