Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah completed an awards double on Thursday night when he was named PFA’s Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season. The Egyptian also made it into the Team of the Year, alongside his five Liverpool teammates and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Salah capped a remarkable individual season by winning the PFA Player of the Year award on May 9, making it a double. The Egypt international also won the FWA Footballer of the Year for his contributions throughout the just concluded 2021/22 Premier League season.

Just another season for Mo Salah 🤷

He scored 23 goals, joint-most with Tottenham striker Son Heung-min, and provided the most assists by any player in the competition.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden won the PFA Young Player of the Year award with nine goals and five assists in 28 league appearances.

Meanwhile, in the women’s category for the same award, Chelsea forward Sam Kerr was crowned the Player of the Year for a remarkable FA Women’s Super League campaign.

The 28-year-old helped her side retain the WSL crown by scoring 20 goals in 20 appearances while also providing four assists. Third-placed Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in her category.

Salah also made the PFA Men’s Team of the Year alongside Liverpool teammates Sadio Mane, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Thiago Alcantara.

Compared to the Reds’ five, the Citizens had only three representatives in the end-of-the-season squad – Joao Cancelo, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva.

Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo completed the squad, but there was no room for Tottenham Hotspur pair Harry Kane and Son. The latter’s exclusion came as a surprise, given he had finished level with Salah on top of the Premier League scoring charts.

Chelsea FCW dominated the Women’s Team of the Year, with Kerr one of four players from Emma Hayes’s side to make it into the squad. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, centre-back Millie Bright, and midfielder Guro Reiten joined Kerr on the team, while Arsenal and Manchester City were represented by three players each.
