Newcastle United are back in for Dean Henderson, the second-choice goalkeeper at Manchester United behind a resurgent David de Gea. The Englishman rose to prominence after successful back-to-back loan spells with Sheffield United and, in the hopes of displacing de Gea as the Red Devils’ number 1, signed a long-term contract with his boyhood club, keeping him until 2025.
Henderson made 26 appearances across all competitions in his first season back at the club, but the number was reduced to just three the subsequent year. With first-team minutes hard to come by, the 25-year-old is looking for a starting spot elsewhere, with Newcastle among those interested.
90min claims that he has already agreed personal terms with the Magpies, while the club is trying to figure out a formula to bring him in from United – whether on loan or permanently.
Meanwhile, Serie A side Salernitana, who avoided being relegated to Serie B by the skin of their teeth, are interested in signing Edinson Cavani as a free agent following his release from Manchester United.
Club president Danilo Iervolino admitted the same in a recent interview, claiming that the Uruguayan would be an incredible gift for Salerno.
“I’d love to sign Edinson Cavani as free agent. Cavani would be an incredible gift for the city, as Salernitana are staying in Serie A,”
the chairman admitted.
The former Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain player joined United on the deadline day of the 2020 summer transfer window, signing a one-year deal with the club with the option to extend it by 12 months further.
The striker international scored 17 goals across 39 matches for the Red Devils in a successful first season at the club, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival the subsequent year put him out of the limelight; he would add just 20 more appearances and two more goals, to his tally.
