OTT streaming platform Voot Select and renowned director Neeraj Pandey have announced their new project centred around India’s Test series victory Down Under in 2020-21. The documentary is named ‘Bandon mein tha dum’ and will be released on June 16.

Pandey is known for his biopic on India’s 2007 World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni. As such, the expectations are high for the upcoming docu-series.

The documentary will highlight the emotions of the Indian and Australian camp as they played a gruelling four-match series. The Indian team claimed the series by 2-1 and won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the second consecutive time away from home. The victory at Gabba was a historic feat as India became the first team to defeat Australia at the venue in 32 years.

“The human stories in this cricketing fairy tale elevated the series beyond a cricketing audience and created huge euphoria. The nation was gripped and it was therefore befitting for us to bring the story to the people of India of one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports,”

Pandey was quoted by Republic World.

The victory was sweeter for India after toiling hard with Covid-19 restrictions and the controversy surrounding the racism incident.

India faced an embarrassing loss in the first match of the series after getting bowled out for just 36. To then go on to win the series by breaching Gabba was a monumental effort and Pandey is excited to share the story.

“Nothing excited me more than retelling this story which went beyond high-quality cricket, hard work, perseverance, determination, commitment, sportsmanship, and decoding the x-factor through the mind of the players which repeated the David Vs Goliath story,”

    the director added.

The documentary will feature the stand-in captain of the series Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammed Siraj behind the scenes, along with other players from both the sides as well as journalists.
