With a new complainant coming forward to share her story of sexual abuse at the hands of Benjamin Mendy, the defender now stands accused of eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of attempted rape, relating to seven young women, reports BBC.
The Manchester City full-back plead not guilty to all the charges last month besides the latest one, and it has not been put to him, and he is yet to enter a plea to.
A court order had banned the media from publishing reports about the latest charge until the order was lifted by Judge Steven Everett, Recorder of Chester, during a hearing at Chester Crown Court on June 1.
All the offences and alleged crimes are said to have taken place at the French international’s home address in Prestbury, Cheshire, during an almost three-year period between October 2018 and August 2021.
The 27-year-old, who has been suspended from all football-related activities since last August, will go on trial before a jury on July 25. He will face the trial along with his co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, who has also entered not guilty pleas to all the charges he faces.
Mendy’s friend Matturie from Eccles has denied eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault relating to eight young women. Apparently, his alleged offences span from way back in July 2012 to August 2021. Both Mendy and Matturie are currently out on bail.
None of the women who have come forward and are involved in the trial have been identified as media reporting restrictions apply before the trial.
Mendy had joined the Citizens from AS Monaco in 2017 for a transfer fee of 52 million pounds, which was then a record fee for a defender. He has made 50 appearances for the club over the last five years, with the club suspending Mendy in August when he was charged with the sexual offences.
