Australia white-ball captain Aaron Finch spoke highly about Tim David’s contribution to Mumbai Indians’ display in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2022.
The five-time IPL champions couldn’t quite hit their best during the 2022 edition of the tournament, finishing bottom of the points table with just four wins from 14 league stage games. That was after they had lost each of their first eight matches before they somewhat redeemed themselves at the fag end.
One of the few positives and key to their little turnaround in the second half of the season was Singapore batter David. Brought at the auctions at a whopping INR 8.25 crores, he finished the season with 186 runs at 37.20, while maintaining a highly impressive strike-rate of 216.28.
The 26-year-old was sidelined after just three outings during the first half of the competition before he returned with a sparkling nine-ball 21* and a 21-ball 44* in the side’s wins against eventual finalists Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans, respectively.
He’d later smash an 18-ball 46 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, his wicket providing the game its decisive twist, before a timely 11-ball 34 in the last league stage encounter against the Delhi Capitals helped the Rohit Sharma-led side close out with a win.

Finch lauded David for his outstanding ball-striking during the competition.
“He’s been in fantastic form for a while now, the back end of the IPL was fantastic for him, it was at his brutal best. The ability to hit from ball one is a pretty rare skill and he’s done that plenty of times now.
“For him to keep being so consistent that’s something that we’ll definitely look at over the next little while,”

David, who has aggregated 558 runs at 46.50 in while striking at 158.52 in 14 T20Is, has been a much sought after cricketer in various other T20 leagues. Currently, he is a part of the Lancashire at the ongoing T20 Blast competition in England and has registered scores of 35(18), 60(25) and 15(9) in his first three outings for the club.
