Matthew Wade, a key member in Gujarat Titans’ top-order, opened up on his current form and stated he can’t wait to put on a show in the upcoming Indian Premier League against Rajasthan Royals.
In their first-ever IPL appearance, the Titans have been the most consistent team of the season with their impressive run through to the final. They were the first to secure a playoffs berth, winning 10 of the 14 league games, before storming past Rajasthan in a last-over finish in Qualifier 1.
They will face the same opponents in the title clash at the Narendra Modi International Stadium, Ahmedabad, on May 29. Matthew Wade, one of their experienced overseas personnel, is keen for the big game and hopes to create a decisive impact to help his side lift the trophy.
“I like big games, I like finals, it’s something that I’ve really enjoyed over my career, being able to turn a couple of performances on in finals and hopefully I can do that as well in the final,”
he told cricket.com.au.
The 34-year-old, playing his first IPL since 2011, hasn’t quite been able to produce an innings of note, with 149 runs from nine outings at 16.56 and a highest of 35. The T20 World Cup champion also opened up on a frustrating phase but knows what it takes to turn things around.
“It’s been a frustrating tournament personally, I’ve been hitting the ball well, especially since I came back into the team. It just hasn’t quite clicked, I found the fielders a little bit, just found ways to get out but I’ve played enough to know that happens for periods of time throughout T20 especially, but you’ve just got to stay brave and keep swinging the bat like you know you can swing it.”
