The Villains have confirmed an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of Brazil international Diego Carlos. The centre-back will fly in for his medical before signing for the club.

The deal is subject to undergo the final formalities but is likely to pass through without difficulties. Carlos will travel to England to undergo his medical examinations. The 29-year-old and his representatives will then finalize personal terms with the club before penning down the contract.

Aston Villa can confirm the club has reached an agreement with Sevilla FC for the transfer of Diego Carlos for an undisclosed fee.

While the details of the agreement are yet to be announced, the Athletic reports that Villa will pay Sevilla 26 million pounds for the defender, whichi is a steep decrease from the 51 million the Spanish side was reportedly asking Newcastle United to cough up back when the Magpies displayed an interest in signing the centerback in January. Spurs, too, were linked with the Brazilian in the past, with reports back then claiming a player-swap deal was in the offing.

Should the rest of the formalities go through as expected, Carlos will become Villa’s third signing of the summer. Previously, the Villans confirmed a deal had been reached for the permanent transfer of Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona; they also completed the free signing of Olympique Marseille prodigy Boubacar Kamara last week on a long-term contract.

Carlos spent three years with FC Nantes in France – which is where he caught the eye of scouts across Europe. However, the shrewd minds at Sevilla moved quickly to secure a deal for the Brazilian, paying Nantes 15 million euros for his services in July 2019.

Over the next three seasons, he became a fixture in the Andalusian side’s defence, starting or playing in 136 games. One of those matches was the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League final, in which his overhead kick bounced off Romelu Lukaku and ended up in the Inter Milan net, winning the cup for Sevilla.
