LaLiga threatens legal action as Mbappe star snubs Real Madrid for PSG renewal

The France international chose to renew his expiring contract with Paris Saint-Germain instead of signing for Real Madrid. Now, LaLiga is threatening to take legal action against the Ligue 1 champions.

In a remarkable twist, Mbappe chose to continue in Paris and renew his contract against leaving for Madrid. PSG, who would’ve lost the 23-year-old for nothing at the end of this season, ended up making an offer that he deemed better than the one Real Madrid tabled in front of him – and his stay was extended by three years.

According to Goal, PSG offered to make Mbappe the highest-paid player on their team, ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Sergio Ramos, and others. Furthermore, Parisians offered their talisman a bumper signing-on bonus, believed to be in the region of 100 million euros, and make him the front-and-center – and the key decision-maker – of their project.

Additionally, it is reported that Mbappe was approached directly by the French president Emmanuel Macron, who presented a case for the Frenchman to stay in Paris rather than go to Madrid.

The financial aspect of Mbappe’s new deal did not sit well with LaLiga, who released a statement shortly after his signing was made official, confirming their intentions to file a complaint against PSG for endangering the integrity of the spot.

“LaLiga will file a complaint against PSG before UEFA, the French administrative and fiscal authorities, and European Union authorities to continue to defend the economic ecosystem of European football and its sustainability.

“It is scandalous that a club like PSG can close such an agreement while those clubs that could afford the hiring of the player without seeing their wage bill compromised are left without being able to sign him,”

    it read.

Mbappe celebrated his new contract by firing PSG to a win over Metz on the final day of the 2021/22 Ligue 1 season. The France international scored a hattrick in the 5-0 drubbing.
