Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have confirmed striker Robert Lewandowski’s intentions to leave the club this summer, amid reports that Barcelona are ready to offer the Poland international a three-year contract.

The club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the news to Sky Germany, stating “I spoke with Lewandowski. During the conversation he informed me that he didn’t want to accept our offer to extend his contract and that he would like to leave the club.”

Meanwhile, as per BBC, Lewandowski has been quoted as saying:

“I told the club that if an offer comes in, then we have to think about it – also for the club. We have to find the best solution for both sides. I won’t sign a new contract.”

The former Borussia Dortmund man was speaking  after scoring in Die Roten’s final match of the Bundesliga season, a 2-2 draw away at Wolfsburg.

Despite the 33-year-old making his intentions clear, Salihamidzic suggested the striker would not be allowed to leave.

“Our position has not changed. The fact is he has a contract to 30 June, 2023.”

    he said.

Recent reports have linked the striker to La Liga with Barcelona gaffer Xavi Hernandez confirming earlier in the day that he would have no problem signing an ageing star. However, it would be interesting to see at what price does Bayern agree to let their striker go given Barca’s dire financial situation. Lewandowski scored for the 35th time in the Bundesliga this campaign after netting in the 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg this weekend.

Since joining Bayern in 2014, the back-to-back winner of FIFA’s best male player award has won eight Bundesliga trophies while also lifting the Champions League in 2020.

He has netted 344 goals in 374 games for Die Roten since his arrival at the Allianz Arena and is the club’s second-highest corer of all time behind Gerd Muller. Last year, the ace striker broke Muller’s 49-year record for most league goals in Bundesliga in a calendar year with 43 in 34 games.

This year, the Polish star ended up scoring 50 goals from 46 appearances in all competitions, and again will be a top contender to win Ballon d’Or this year.
