Reports: Liverpool, Chelsea eyeing Nketiah with Arsenal exit looming

Liverpool and Chelsea have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah when his contract expires this summer. The youngster is expected to leave the club despite featuring heavily in recent matches.

Despite replacing Alexandre Lacazette in the Arsenal first eleven for recent games – and performing well in his position – youngster Eddie Nketiah is still likely to leave his boyhood club when his contract expires this summer. Nketiah’s share of minutes in the starting eleven was only increased recently by manager Mikel Arteta with the 22-year-old already well on his way out beforehand.

Sensing an opportunity to pick up an exciting prospect for free, Arsenal’s rivals Liverpool and Chelsea are monitoring the situation involving Nketiah – reports 90MIN. While it’s difficult to imagine the striker taking up a starting spot at either of those clubs just yet, the pair believes him to be an appealing option to add to their squad depth.

As it stands, Liverpool are bound to lose their only recognized striker Divock Origi this summer, while there is uncertainty regarding the futures of several of Chelsea’s attacking talents.

However, the two Premier League behemoths might find themselves low on the list of the player themselves, given the lack of regular minutes they can offer at this point. To that end, one of the many interested middling English clubs – including the likes of Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Everton – or one from a foreign league, with whom he has been linked previously, might be a more attractive proposition for the England youth international.

Having spent the majority of his youth career at Chelsea, Nketiah joined the Arsenal ranks as a youth player after he was released by the Blues in 2015. Two years later, the youngster broke into the first team and has since made almost a hundred appearances for the club – and scored 22 goals so far. Nketiah also spent half a season on loan at the then Championship club Leeds United, but he was recalled by his parent club early.
