Manchester City and Liverpool lead the nominations for Player of the Year, Manager of the Year, and Young Player of the Year awards for the 2021/22 Premier League season; Crystal Palace feature heavily too, but there is the notable absence of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Two each from Liverpool and Manchester City are nominated for the 2021/22 Premier League Player of the Season award. The pair have been locked in battle at the top of the table for almost the entirety of the campaign and the league has recognized them for the same, with nominations stretching into the Manager and Young Player of the Season categories, too.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, currently the league’s second-highest assist provider for the season, joins Mohamed Salah, the league’s highest scorer and the highest assist provider, in the Player of the Season nominations. Alexander-Arnold has registered 12 assists to Salah’s 13, but the latter also has 22 goals to his name – so far.
For Manchester City, neither Kevin de Bruyne nor Joao Cancelo have stood out in terms of pure numbers, but their influence has been felt throughout the campaign. They, too, are on the list.
Son Heung-min, trailing Salah by a goal in the charts, is also nominated, as is Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka. West Ham United ace Jarrod Bowen and Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse round up the nominees. Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, third in terms of goals scored this season, has not been included.
Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp lead the nominees in the Manager of the Season category – the two pushing their respective sides to new heights throughout the campaign. Newcomers Patrick Vieira (Crystal Palace) and Thomas Frank (Brentford) are nominated alongside the two stalwarts for overachieving in their given jobs. Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe, who joined the club midway through the season with it languishing at the bottom of the table, is also on the list after remarkably leading the Magpies away from danger.
Vieira’s Palace leads the Young Player of the Season nominations – jointly with Arsenal – with two of their young stars listed for the end of the season award. Midfield all-rounder Conor Gallagher and left-back Tyrick Mitchell have capped off their brilliant individual campaigns by scoring a nomination each.
Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Saka are also in the running for the award, as are Chelsea’s Mason Mount, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold, and West Ham’s Declan Rice.
