The 31-year-old hurt a muscle in his left forearm during the clash against Gujarat Titans on May 6 and has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2022.

“Suryakumar Yadav has sustained a muscle strain on his left forearm, and has been ruled out for the season. He has been advised to rest, in consultation with the BCCI medical team,”

Mumbai Indians said in a statement.

This is the second time Yadav has been sidelined from action in recent months due to an injury. Ahead of the IPL 2022, he spent three weeks at the National Cricket Academy, recovering from a hairline fracture on his thumb sustained on February 22 in the final T20I against West Indies.

Suryakumar had to miss the first week of the IPL 2022 and could only make it into MI playing XI from the third game against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 6. He was the second-highest run-getter and the best batter on show for the franchise, scoring 303 runs in only eight games at an average of 43 and strike rate of 147, including three half centuries.

SKY was one of the few performing players for MI in their forgettable season, where they have only managed two wins and have lost nine games, reeling at the bottom of the table.

The details of the severity of the injury and the time it’ll take to recover from it are still unknown. The player has the challenge of getting fit in time for the five-match T20I series against South Africa at home starting from June 9. He has been in magnificent form in recent times and will be a key player for India in the T20 World Cup later this year.
