According to Cadena Cope’s journalist Helena Condis, FC Barcelona have rejected the chance to bring back Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin, who is currently on loan at Real Betis. The Blaugrana were reportedly interested in signing him back to Camp Nou last summer, but the priorities have changed this summer.

However, the club is said to be still interested in signing a right-back this summer amid doubts over the futures of Dani Alves and Sergino Dest. Whilst, the Catalans are yet to offer the Brazilian an extension on his current contract which is set to expire on June 30, Dest has himself failed to impress at Barca and might be moved by the club if the right offer comes in for the USMNT player.

Barca are said to be focussed on signing Noussair Mazraoui in a free transfer in the summer transfer window, with the Moroccan defender also liking the idea to join the La Liga giants. However, the Xavi-led side might face stiff competition from Bayern Munich who have also made the ACF Ajax full-back a priority target.

Given his age and experience, Bellerin could have been a viable target for Barca and thus the Spain international defender was offered to make a move to Camp Nou in the coming transfer window, but the Catalans have no interest in bringing back the 27-year-old. Infact, Bellerin himself is not open to re-join Barca currently as he solely intends to make his move to Real Betis permanent.

The former Arsenal full-back Bellerin spent most of his formative years at FC Barcelona before moving to Arsenal academy. He soon made his first-team breakthrough with the Gunners and steadily grew in stature to become the first choice right-back for the North Londoners.

However, since Mikel Arteta’s arrival, his role in the team substantially decreased as he chose to join Betis on loan in August 2021. The Barcelona native has so far played 31 games for the Andalusian club this campaign, even chipping in with five assists.

Barcelona are currently placed third in the La Liga standings with 69 points from 35 games. Meanwhile, Bellerin’s Betis are fifth in the table, having attained 58 points with three more games left in this La Liga season.
