Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant hammered Shreyas Gopal for 22 runs in an over in the 2022 Indian Premier League fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but the leg-spinner got the last laugh.
The match no. 50 of the IPL 2022 saw some incredible action between the two sides when they locked horns at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on May 4. One of the key moments of the match was Kane Williamson throwing a bait against Rishabh Pant, which eventually worked.
The Hyderabad captain won the toss for the ninth time this season and decided to field first. Delhi lost Mandeep Singh in the first over for a duck, while Mitchell Marsh couldn’t stay for long either. Pant walked in to join hands with former SRH man David Warner. While the Australian looked in great touch, the Delhi skipper struggled to get going, scoring only four runs in his first 11 balls.
It was the ninth over of the match when Williamson handed the ball to leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal, playing his first match of the season. Pant saw his preferred matchup and delivered a proper onslaught on the bowler. He hammered the first six over deep square leg and followed with two more straight over bowler’s head and long off. Pant then cut the fifth delivery for a four to deep point.
But as it happened, Gopal had the last laugh as Pant dragged an outside off full toss onto the stumps. Gopal gave away 23 runs in the over but took a prized scalp of Pant. The Delhi skipper recovered his innings to 26 off 16 from a slow start.
The dismissal, however, didn’t help SRH much as they still conceded over 200 and lost the game by 21 runs. Warner, who had a score to settle against his former franchise, blasted an unbeaten 92 off 58 while Rovman Powell showed his brute force with 35-ball 67.
For SRH, Aiden Markram continued his form with a 42 off 25, while Nicholas Pooran fought till the end with his 62 off 34, but they eventually fell short.

Hyderabad have now lost three matches on the trot and are level with the Capitals and Punjab Kings on points and matches played. All three teams have 10 points, with DC having the best net run-rate.
