‘Second part of my innings was the best I ever played’, admits Samson as RR beat PK

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson aknowledged he looked scratchy in the early part of his innings against Punjab Kings.

Indian Premier League produces matches that enthral the viewers season after season. Monday night saw one such contest when Punjab Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by four runs in a high-scoring affair. Samson played sensational innings of 119 in just 63 deliveries, but failed to clear the ropes on the last ball when they needed 5 runs to win.

Sanju Samson was a one-man army for the Royals as none of the other batsmen could cross the 25-run mark. The Kerala batsman smashed 12 fours and seven sixes in his glorious innings.

“The second part of the innings was the best I ever played. In the first part, I was not timing it very well. I took my time, respected the bowlers, took singles and got into a rhythm and then I started to play my shots in the second half,”

Samson said at the post-match presentation.

“I enjoy my shots but I come back to the present after I play those shots. It automatically happens, when I focus on my skills and watch the ball and react. Sometimes I lose my wicket also, so I just play the same way.”

    he added.

Earlier in the match, KL Rahul played a terrific knock of his own, scoring 91 runs off 50 balls and helping PBKS put on a massive score. The Punjab Skipper wasn’t happy with the fielding display, but was impressed with Deepak Hooda’s performance (58 off 28). He also praised Arshdeep Singh, who returned with 3 for 35 and bowled an excellent last over.

“The game went deep only because me included, we dropped some sitters. We bowled well until about 11-12 overs. We’re used to this, and it’s not something new for us, but a win like this brings the team together. We batted really well and bowled well in patches. We weren’t consistent with the lengths but the bowlers will learn.”

    KL Rahul said.

Rajasthan Royals will next face Delhi Capitals on 15th April while Punjab Kings will take on Chennai Super Kings on 16th April, both the matches at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
