Manchester United’s late attempt to hijack the signing of RB Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi hit a stumbling block as the player himself turned down a move worth 150,000 pounds per week to Old Trafford, having already set eyes on a return to his native Germany – as per SPORT1 journalist Patrick Berger.
The German is reportedly closing in on a transfer to Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract, one without a release clause, as in the case of striker Erling Haaland. The move could be announced shortly, as per widespread reports.
News of United’s reportedly failed attempt to sign Adeyemi comes after interim manager – and soon-to-be consultant – Ralf Rangnick claimed that the club needed two “modern” forwards.
“Cristiano is not a central striker or does not want to play in that position,” he said. “It’s obvious that the club needs, I would say, at least two new strikers who just give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers. Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers,”
he recently told the club’s website.
Manchester United’s backroom structure moving forward remains a mystery, with several key figures exiting the club in recent weeks. It is to be seen who calls the shots in terms of transfers in and out after the arrival of Erik ten Hag, but if those are the decisions made in consensus with the Dutchman, one player who might soon be coming to Old Trafford is Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.
According to the Mirror, United scouts watched the 22-year-old’s cameo in Feyenoord’s 3-2 win over Marseille in the UEFA Conference League semifinals.
