Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski has made up his mind to explore new challenges and with reports of his new contract with the German club stalling, Lewandowski wants to join FC Barcelona.

Barcelona’s interest in landing Polish striker Lewandowski this summer is no secret. The Bayern Munich star is on top of their list to consolidate the number 9 position. The Catalan giants had also been in the race to sign Erling Haaland, but they believe that they can no longer keep up with the financial offers made by Manchester City and Real Madrid.

As a result, they have now turned their sights on Lewandowski who continues to break goal scoring records. Now the question here might be that how can Barca, a club crippled with debt and bloated wage bill, afford the striker? As per latest reports, the 33-year-old charges nearly 18.2 million pounds a year at the Bavarian club.

However, according to a report by Mundo Deportivo, he will be willing to accept a wage cut in order to move to Camp Nou. Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has apparently informed Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta that the Polish striker is open to lowering his wage demands as he seeks a new challenge in his career.

The Pole still has a year on his contract with Bayern, and although the Bavarian giants want to extend his stay in Munich, talks over a new deal have hit an impasse. The 31-time Bundesliga champions are unwilling to pay the salary he has been asking them, and the player wants to seek newer pastures as well. He is also believed to be disappointed that the club have made no serious offers to him so far.

Lewandowski is also looking for a three-year deal which Bayern are unwilling to offer. Furthermore, Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic made a defiant statement last week when he assured that Lewandowski will not be sold in the summer transfer window.

These comments have reportedly annoyed the player, strengthening his resolve to depart Munich. Furthermore, Lewandowski is aware that if he waits for an additional year, he will be 35 by the end of his contract, and no big club will bid for him then.
