The Bianconeri are studying the possibility of signing Paris Saint- Germain winger Angel di Maria on a short-term contract, a report in Goal.com says. Di Maria’s seven-year spell at Parc de Princes seems to be coming to an end with his contract up at the end of the season – and the Parisian club is unlikely to offer him an extension as it goes through a structural shift from top to bottom.
The Argentine extended his contract with PSG ahead of the 2021/22 season for one year with the option to extend it for another 12 months. However, the club has reportedly decided against triggering that option, partly due to their finances taking a hit in the pandemic and the player’s high wages.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, for his part, wants to continue playing in Europe. He is against taking a pay cut by returning to Argentina. Furthermore, the 34-year-old would have liked to continue his career in Paris – with his family settled in the city – but could end up relocating to Turin for the subsequent years.
Juventus are prepared to offer a one-year deal to Di Maria, and negotiations between the club and the player’s representatives are underway for the same. The Italian giants are offering a single year to the winger at the moment, but discussions are underway to add another optional year.
Di Maria would add some much-needed depth to the Juventus squad, should he complete a move to Turin in the postseason. As it stands, the Bianconeri have only two natural wingers in their squad, Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi, and the former is recovering from a long-term injury.
Di Maria has been one of the Parisian stalwarts in the last decade, though, playing nearly 300 games for the capital club, scoring 91 goals, and creating 117 more.
