Following a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool, Manchester United were thrown under the bus by interim boss Ralf Rangnick. Meanwhile, two leading scouts have also parted ways with Manchester United.

Just minutes after he had seen his side getting mauled at Anfield, Rangnick, who is going to take over the position of director of football this summer, admitted just how far behind United were to their arch-rivals Liverpool.

Six years, that’s how far ahead Liverpool were compared to the Red Devils following their appointment of Jurgen Klopp. Although it took him to rebuild the club from the ground up, only success has followed since as they have been one of the most consistent sides in Europe. Liverpool have also won a Champions League and a Premier League title under his guidance.

“We have to accept they are six years ahead of us now. When Juergen Klopp came they changed at the club and lifted not just the team but the club and city to a new level. That is what needs to happen with us in the next transfer windows,”

    said Rangnick.

Meanwhile, United were dealt another major blow as two of their leading scouts decided to part ways. Club’s chief scout Jim Lawlor and the head of global scouting Marcel Bout have both departed the Red Devils, according to The Athletic’s report.

Lawlor had joined the club in 2015 and was promoted to the position of chief scout in 2014. Meanwhile, Bout arrived during Louis Van Gaal’s spell in 2016. Though he initially came as a coach, he later moved to scout roles. Both Lawlor and Bout have been influential voices in the club’s scouting and recruitment policy which has been widely criticized in recent years.

The moves are expected to usher in a complete change in United’s scouting structure, and they will be aiming to streamline the operation. John Murtough will now have full control of football operations and will be driving the changes in policy
