Erik ten Hag will join Manchester United as manager for the next three seasons, plus an additional one if the club deems it so, this summer. The Red Devils confirmed the Dutchman’s appointment after weeks of speculation.

The club’s media confirmed the same in today’s announcement, revealing that the Dutchman will replace Ralf Rangnick at the end of this season on a contract until June 2025 with the option to extend it by another 12 months, subject to work visa regulations.

Speaking to the United website for the first time, ten Hag claimed that taking over the job was a great honor, even if it was a difficult personal decision to leave AFC Ajax after five successful years.

“It is a great honor to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead. I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.

“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.”

    the 52-year-old said.

Manchester United will announce who joins ten Hag’s backroom staff in due time, but the Dutchman is expected to bring his current Ajax deputy Mitchell van der Gaag with him to England. Reports previously have also claimed that Rene Meulensteen and Steve McClaren – both former assistant managers at Manchester United – could also join ten Hag.

Ten Hag will complete the current season with the Amsterdam club, whom he hopes to lead to a third league title in four years – the only other year the Amsterdam-based side did not win was since it was curtailed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Under his guidance, Ajax also reached the UEFA Champions League semifinals in 2018/19.
