FC Barcelona continue to maintain their firm interest in Bayern Munich’s striker Robert Lewandowski. The two parties are reportedly close to agreeing personal terms, and the Catalans are also offering him a longer contract should he choose to leave Allianz Arena this summer.

According to BILD, the Poland international, who has just over a year in his contract with Bayern, wants to stay put in Bavaria but also wants a longer contract and greater commitment from Bayern.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are ready to capitalize on the opportunity and have a three-year contract lined up for the 33-year-old. The Catalan club have been in constant contact with the player as well as his agent, Pini Zahavi. However, they are yet to make a formal offer to Bayern as they wait for Lewandowski’s decision regarding his contract renewal.

Several Spanish outlets have reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is desperate to sign a ‘star’ player this summer. While they have been in the race for Erling Haaland, Barcelona cannot compete with the financial offers of Manchester City and Real Madrid, and according to latest sources, the Norwegian is edging closer to England.

Therefore, Barcelona have turned their attention towards Lewandowski as their Plan B. Lewandowski’s contractual situation makes for a perfect opportunity which Laporta and his board will be hoping to capitalize on.

Proceedings over a new deal have been slow, and reports suggest that Lewandowski wants a longer three-year contract which has stalled talks for now. Lewandowski will also be ready to push for an exit in June this year if he doesn’t end up renewing with Bayern before that. He doesn’t want to wait and leave as a free agent next summer, given that he will be 35 by then.

Lewandowski, who feels that he was robbed of the Ballon d’Or after a historic performance last year, will have a greater chance at winning the trophy if he plays with Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Bayern sporting director Oliver Kahn has urged Bayern fans to remain calm as they are trying to get him to stay for as long as possible.
