Sean Dyche has been sacked from his position as Burnley manager after nine years and 166 days in charge, the club confirmed on April 15. The Clarets are currently in a Premier League relegation, hoping to avoid the drop to the Championship.

Dyche has experienced these situations multiple times in his longstanding association with the club on many occasions taking them to safety as well. With just eight games left in the season, the veteran manager has been sacked, leaving the football world in a confused state of mind.

He was the Premier League’s longest-serving manager at the time of his sacking, having joined the club back in 2012. Dyche has also been persistent in his project, getting Burnley promoted twice from the Championship to the Premier League (2014 & 2016).

He also managed two top-half Premier League finishes, including the Europa League spot back in the 2017/18 season, Burnley’s first European qualification in 51 years, in his most successful campaign.

Burnley released a statement confirming Dyche’s departure, and thanked the veteran for his services to the club over the years. His assistant Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone, and goalkeeping trainer Billy Mercer were all relieved of their duties, which expressed their gratitude to Dyche’s entire team.

“Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the club over the last decade. During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.

However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.”

chairman Alan Pace told the club’s website.

The club also revealed that while the process of replacing Dyche has begun. Captain Ben Mee, along with Mike Jackson, Paul Jenkins, and Conor King will be in charge of the squad for their next Premier League encounter against West Ham on April 17.
