According to Sport.es, the Blaubrana are interested in re-acquiring the services of La Masia graduate Xavi Simons. The wonder kid has been playing for Paris Saint-Germain since 2019 but is believed to be unsettled there.

The Dutch midfielder, now 18, had spent his entire youth career with Barcelona’s academy and was considered as one of the brightest talents of his generation. He topped various rankings of most promising young players almost every year.

That is the reason why his shocking departure from Barcelona in July 2019 was considered damning by the fans and even members of the board. Simons had failed to agree on a new contract with Barcelona and decided to move to France on a fatter paycheck.

Despite earning 1 million euros per month, Simmons has occasionally featured for PSG’s U19 side and hasn’t been able to make a difference. In three years, he has only made nine appearances for the senior team and has failed to deliver on his promise. The teenager’s contract with PSG runs out in July, and according to rumours, Barcelona are interested in bringing him back.

Although he has struggled to get opportunities with the Parisian first team, Simons has continued from strength to strength for the PSG youth teams. He’s the captain of their U19 side in the UEFA Youth League and has been in outstanding form.

The Dutchman has scored four goals and registered six assists for his side in seven matches. He was suspended for the quarter-finals, where is team got knocked out by RB Leipzig.

A naturally and technically gifted attacking midfielder, the 18-year-old has found it difficult to displace more established names from the PSG starting XI, including Leandro Paredes, Marco Verratti and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Despite this, first-team manager Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful that the youngster will extend his stay in Paris. The Argentine’s decision to leave Simons out of the squad for Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash against Clermont (6-1) caused controversy in Paris, but the tacticiain explained his decision, saying:

“We hope that in the future, young people will be able to have more space to show their qualities.”
