Relegation-threatened Everton registered a massive morale-boosting win over Manchester United, who looked disappointing once again. The Red Devils’ chances of finishing in the top four suffered yet another setback.

Manchester United’s hopes of landing major European football next season are dangling by a wire following their recent trip to Merseyside. Another disappointing afternoon beckoned for Ralf Rangnick’s side as they ended up losing 1-0 against struggling Everton at the Goodison Park.

Anthony Gordon’s goal at the 27th-minute mark proved to be the difference between the two teams. Frank Lampard’s side will be ecstatic following the massive win, given that they are desperately trying to avoid being dragged into the relegation battle.

United, meanwhile, have failed to win a match for the third consecutive time across all competitions and they are now seventh in the Premier League table with Tottenham, Arsenal, and West Ham above them in the European spots.

The Red Devils, who held positive meetings with AFC Ajax coach Erik ten Hag recently over a summer appointment, are meandering towards another disappointing end to the season. They haven’t won a trophy in five years, and their last league title arrived nine years ago.

Cristiano Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure in the match. The Portuguese also got in hot water after slamming the phone of a fan on his way back to the dugout.

Chelsea, who have had a rough week following disappointing losses to Brentford (1-4; PL) and Real Madrid (1-3; UCL), annihilated Southampton away from home. The Blues ran away with a sensational 0-6 win.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes for the Blues. Mason Mount, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz all scored in succession to make it 4-0 in favour of Chelsea even before half-time.  Mount and Werner then doubled their tally in the match with goals in the second half to seal a goal-fest at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Chelsea remain third in the Premier League, and they trail second-placed Liverpool by 10 points. The barrage of goals is expected to fill the Blues with confidence ahead of their visit to the Santiago Bernabeu this week as they hope to overturn a 1-3 deficit from the first leg.
