Australia’s historic tour of Pakistan was a grand success according to the Pakistan Cricket Board, who claim to have made a profit of two billion rupees from the series. The board’s Chairman Rameez Raja expressed his elation and said that Pakistan are right on track in commercial aspects.

The Aussies toured Pakistan for the first time in 24 years, playing three Tests, a T20I and three ODIs on a month-long tour from March 4 to April 5. Aaron Finch’s side the Test series 1-0, after the first two Tests resulted in draw. They also clinched the one-off T20I match to cap off the tour. The home side took the honours in the ODI leg, winning the series by 2-1.

Raja said defeating India in the T20 World Cup was a huge turning point for Pakistan, in cricketing terms as well as in commercial aspects. Speaking in a video released by the PCB, he claimed the series between Australia and Pakistan has shattered the records in terms of commercial profit:

“Defeating India in the T20 World Cup was a turning point for us and it took our cricket to new heights. It’s the effect you saw in the PSL as well. From the commercial aspect, I think we have broken all the records. I think we will generate profit around two billion rupees from this [Australia] tour.”

The PCB Chairman admitted that while they’re on the right track commercially, they’re still lagging in terms of cricket infrastructure in the country. Rameez assured that the board will now work towards providing better coaching, training and cricket pathways for youngsters.

“We are far behind in terms of infrastructure. I was waiting for the Australia series to end so that we can move towards pathways cricket, where we will focus on coaching, training, and education of youngsters,”

    he added.
