Inter Miami striker Gonzalo Higuain has come forward to dispute the claims he is going to hang up his boots. He suggests that it was a misunderstanding and that he wants to continue playing football.

After an illustrious career in Europe with Real Madrid, Napoli, and Juventus, the Argentine has been playing his football in the United States with David Beckham’s club since 2020. At 34, Higuain’s best years in the sport are well behind him, and his father, Jorge, had recently suggested that he wouldn’t be returning to Argentina but was going to consider retirement instead.

“I don’t see him returning to Argentina. He finishes this year. At least what he told me, that he was retiring. He’s retiring from the sport,”

    Jorge Higuain told TNT Sport.

However, that is far from the actual case, and the Argentine striker has come forward to refute these claims. Gonzalo has publicly declared that he wants to continue playing the sport.

“It was a misunderstanding that he had with me, at no time did I tell him about retirement, he expressed himself badly.

“It’s something that can happen, but it has nothing to do with reality, I’m focused on the club and on fulfilling my contract.

    the 34-year-old declared.

Higuain, whose Inter contract expires on December 31, also mentioned that he will communicate the decision himself when he thinks it is the right time for him to announce his retirement.

With that being said, however, he knows and understands that he is not getting younger anytime sooner. At 34, his body isn’t the same as it was, and the topic of retirement is never far away from his mind.

Higuain agreed that he is getting close to the end of his career, though. But that’s not happening today or tomorrow and still has some time remaining. He wants to fulfil his contract now and will make a decision at the end of the year, depending on how he feels.
