Prithvi Shaw keeping India comeback thoughts at bay

Delhi Capitals opening batsman Prithvi Shaw said he isn’t thinking about his potential comeback for India. The 21-year-old is focused solely on his teams’ performance in the UPL 2021.

Shaw was dropped from the Indian Test side after two poor dismissals following the Adelaide Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He wasn’t retained in the squad for the home series versus England either. It is felt by many that Shaw’s technical flaws will make it extremely difficult for him to survive and excel at the highest level of the game.

However, since his return to India from Australia, the aggressive right-hand batsman has shown stellar form. Shaw led Mumbai to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title recently, scoring 827 runs, including four hundreds and a fifty, at an average of 165.40 and strike-rate of 138.29 in India’s premier domestic List A competition.

Shaw remained in fantastic touch on the night of the IPL 2021 opener versus Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai on Saturday. He blasted 72 runs off just 38 deliveries and played a crucial role in DC’s successful quest to reach the 189-run target.

Feeling good. Everyone contributed and it was a good start (to the season). The wicket was good to bat on in the second innings and we executed quite well.

said Shaw at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Through his knock, it was also evident that Shaw has worked hard on removing the chinks from his batsmanship in the past few months, as his stance was seeing him cover more balls outside the off stump now and the bat was coming down straighter from the wicketkeeper’s position, instead of the gully region.

“From Australia when I was dropped I was working from there itself, coming back and across early, so I practiced before going to Vijay Hazare with Pravin Amre and worked on that. I had a good plan before going into that tournament, so it is working quite well.

I don’t want to think about it (being dropped from the Indian side) because it was a disappointing moment for me but I have to move on and if something is wrong with my batting or technique, I have to improve and I am working hard on myself.

    he revealed.

Delhi Capitals (DC) will be facing Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next IPL 2021 fixture on Thursday (April 15) in Mumbai.
